The Luxor, Circus Circus's latest and
greatest resort, is truly an amazing
building. At a cost of $300 million, the
pyramid shaped structure is 30 stories
tall and covers 2.45 million square
feet. The interior of the building is an
enormous 29 million cubic foot enclosed atrium surrounded by cantilevered
corridor balconies. As impressive as
this world renowned building is, the
acoustic and aesthetic performance of
K-13"fc" is equally impressive.
K-13"fc" effectively provides the acoustic control necessary to manage the noise level and reverberation created by the massive volume of the atrium and the various activities occurring within it. At the same time, K-13"fc" gives the atrium ceiling an appealing texture which enhances the overall visual effect of the building's design.
A one inch thick application of K-13"fc" provides an NRC of .90 for the middle seven balconies, where acoustics were determined to be the most critical. The upper and lower balconies were treated with a half inch thick application of K-13"fc" to provide an NRC of .65. In addition to the Luxor's atrium, 30,000 square feet of K-13 Black was applied to the ceiling of the Luxor's arena which is on a level below the atrium. |

The versatility of K-13 spray-on insulation is dramatically demonstrated in the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Both the thickness and specially matched color of K-13 were specifically chosen to meet the requirements of this project as described below.
