Withstanding the test of time...

The York Ice Arena in York, PA has proven to be a great K-13 story. Years ago, the city of York bought an old, open metal building and converted it into an ice rink which would be open to the public. As more people used the facility, more problems arose from the exposed batt insulation that was on the metal deck. Hockey pucks would continually hit the roof and leave holes. These holes were then enlarged by pigeons who pecked at them and ultimately made nests on the ceiling. Too many holes and nests in the ceiling forced the city to enclose the building and search for a better form of insulation. The city knew that birds would still fly in from time to time and also realized that there was no way of preventing hockey pucks from striking the ceiling surface. The only logical solution was to spray two inches of K-13 to the metal deck. K-13 was applied to the ceiling of the arena and to this day has withstood the constant pelting of hockey pucks and pecking from the birds which still enter the rink.
